A journeyman is a skilled worker who has completed formal training in a trade or craft and who has achieved a recognized level of competence and expertise. The journeyman is a step above an apprentice but still below the level of a master craftsman. In some trades, the journeyman level may require a certain amount of experience and mastery of skills, as well as passing a licensing exam. Journeyman workers are typically employed in construction, manufacturing, and other industries where skilled labor is required. The journeyman designation is often used in the trades of carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, and welding, among others. Once a worker becomes a journeyman, they may pursue further training or certification to advance to the level of a master in their trade.
